The numerous attractions and events
throughout the year help to put Hebden Bridge on the map as an
acclaimed centre for culture and recreation. Below are just a
few of the annual events Hebden Bridge offers:
Markets
Every first Sunday in the month Farmers’ Market in Lees Yard.
Every Wednesday in the market square there is a second hand
market.
Every Thursday there is a general market in the market square
Good Friday
The
Ancient Custom of “Pace Egging” takes place at Venues around
Hebden Bridge and Heptonstall during the day
The event is staged to celebrate St George’s battle triumphs
over his challengers and his jeering at the bumbling antics of
Toss Pot. It is also a ceremony for good new season and is one
of the world’s oldest dramas.
Last year Calder High School pupils portrayed the battle of
good over evil with battle scenes similar to some in films
such as “The Matrix” and “Robin Hood”. |

Along side the school the regular seasoned actors known as The
Heptonstall Players perform in Weaver’s Square, Heptonstall.
World Dock Pudding
Championships.
Every year in April Hebden Bridge takes the centre of the
global stage with this long running culinary treat. Tasting is
believing !
Duck Race
Now
in its 14th year this popular April event is your chance to
sponsor your very own duck in its bid to beat the rest to the
finishing point and win you a big prize.

Carnival.
The
2nd Saturday in June sees the schools and organizations of
Hebden Bridge unite for the town’s carnival on Calder Holmes
Park.

Festival
The
nationally acclaimed Arts Festival brings a real buzz to
Hebden Bridge in the of June and early July. With big names
putting on shows and exhibitions across the town there is
something for everyone.

Sculpture Trail, Hardcastle Crags
In
July the natural beauty of Hardcastle Crags offers a canvas to
the exceptional sculpture trail through the woods. Some truly
superb work often on a big scale.
Vintage Car weekend
The Hebden Bridge Vintage Weekend has been
a popular rally for all motor enthusiasts and, in particular,
owners of veteran, vintage and classic vehicles, for over 23
years. The Yorkshire Historic Car Club have developed a
reputation for running an interesting and enjoyable event and
now the Rotary Club of Hebden Bridge have joined with them to
help make this year even better than previous years.
As an added bonus, on Sunday, visitors to Hebden Bridge can
watch the Historic Commercial Vehicle Society’s famous ‘Trans
Pennine Run’ pass through the town. Hebden Bridge is an ideal
location to watch this magnificent collection of historic
vehicles as they wind their way across the Pennines, en route
from Manchester to Harrogate.
Located in the heart of Hebden Bridge, on Calder Holmes Park,
the event attracts hundreds of vehicles, of a wide variety and
age, as well as numerous stalls autojumblers and entertainers.
The town centre, with its wealth of independent shops, cafes,
restaurants and pubs is only a few minutes walk from the park

Hebden Bridge
Bonfire.
Every Year the Hebden Bridge Round Table organises a bonfire
and fireworks display in aid of charity on Calder Holmes Park.
This year is extra special since it marks the 400th
Anniversary of the gunpowder plot. It is thought to be the
biggest bonfire and firework display in Yorkshire. The
fireworks can be seen from all over the town and some 10,000
people flock to Calder Holmes Park for the event.

Carol Singing
Christmas Eve 6pm another annual event not to be mist. A
festive Carol Sing in St George’s Square round the Christmas
tree. The Hebden Bridge Junior Band will be playing at the Carols in the Square this year on Christmas Eve.
