HEBDEN BRIDGE BRASS BAND

HEBDEN BRIDGE BRASS BAND ANNOUNCES ITS FIRST HERITAGE WEEKEND (GALA CONCERT AND MARCH CONTEST on 28 and 29 JUNE 2008)

Hebden Bridge Brass Band is delighted to announce the first Hebden Bridge Heritage Weekend which will take place on 28 and 29 June 2008. This promises to be a magnificent weekend of brass in Hebden Bridge with a Heritage Gala Concert and March Contest for all to enjoy.

A March Contest on Sunday 29th June 2008 to be held in the picturesque setting of Bridge Gate and St George’s Square, with its many quaint pubs and restaurants, commences at 12.00 and up to 20 bands will play for the many prizes.

The Gala Concert on the Saturday evening at Hebden Bridge Picture House, guest soloist Philip McCann.  The weekend celebrates the band’s link with the Mortimer family. Fred Mortimer born in Hebden Bridge started his musical career as a cornet player in Hebden and eventually becoming a 'playing' conductor, playing with the right hand and beating time with the left.  Harry Mortimer received his first cornet from Hebden Bridge Brass Band. The band is also pleased to welcome Mr Martin Mortimer as a special guest at the event.

Band Chairman Mr Ian Plant comments: “We are delighted to be holding this event in Hebden Bridge, a town with a rich banding history going back more than 150 years. The gala weekend will be a fantastic, a great weekend with lots of fun for all”


EASTER 2008 - GIANT CHOCOLATE EGG HUNT

More than 60 children, their parents and grandparents took part in Hebden Bridge Business Association Giant Egg Hunt.

Businesses throughout Hebden Bridge had been hiding hard boiled eggs in their shop windows for the chocolate fans to find.

Those who found all 20 eggs had their names put into a prize draw for the Thornton’s Giant Chocolate Egg at Hebden Bridge Tourist Information Centre.

Organizer, Sue Libotte said ‘The event was very successful, the children loved it and so did their parents’

The winners were
1st prize the Giant Easter Egg - Eva Wagster.
2nd prize Roisin Benville
and jointly the 3rd prize Etta Lawrence and Eyde Clayton.

To help businesses get started with the plasticbagfree initiative, the kind people at Rubyshoesday have agreed to pay for an initial purchase of 5000 environmentally friendly, plastic-free carrier bags. 

Business will be able to visit Rubyshoesday and purchase a quantity of bags from them when they arrive.  In doing this, they have showed great commitment to the initiative and helped all businesses ease the transition to plastic-free bags by taking the legwork out of the process.
